Three weeks after his first PGA Tour win in Utah, Austin Smotherman has a second. Wind wiped out Sunday at Port Royal, the Butterfield Bermuda Championship became a 54-hole event, and Smotherman beat Seamus Power in a Monday-morning playoff. Here’s how it played out, what it does for the fall card race and where the tour goes next.
The short version
- Smotherman won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at 16-under 197, beating Seamus Power with a par on the third playoff hole.
- Gusts topped 40 mph on Sunday, so the PGA Tour cancelled the final round and shortened the event to 54 holes.
- It’s his second win in under a month (after the Bank of Utah Championship). He earned $1.08 million and 500 FedEx Cup points and rose to 51st.
- Next up: the VidantaWorld Mexico Open at Vidanta Vallarta, Oct. 29–Nov. 1, then three more events before the top-100 cutoff at the RSM.
How It Played Out
Smotherman and Power shared the lead at 16-under after three rounds. When play was postponed and then cancelled on Sunday, the tour cited Monday’s forecast and called the event at 54 holes, with a sudden-death playoff on the par-3 16th at 8 a.m. Monday. Both players parred the hole twice. On the third trip Power missed the green with his tee shot, fluffed his chip and made bogey; Smotherman made par for the title. Power was trying to become the first two-time winner of the event (he won in 2022).

What It Means for the Fall Card Race
The FedEx Cup Fall decides who keeps full status for 2027: the top 100 after the RSM Classic are in (see our 2027 schedule explainer). Bermuda moved the bubble:
- Smotherman jumped to 51st, safely inside the top 100 and the top 60.
- Seamus Power rose 35 spots to 68th.
- Taylor Moore moved to 90th, into the top 100.
- Lee Hodges (102nd) and Max Greyserman (103rd, withdrew with a back injury) slipped out.
- Corey Conners climbed to 54th, putting him in the mix for an Aon Next 10 spot.
Two wins in under a month. Few players have done more with the FedEx Cup Fall than Smotherman.
